CSA Week #5

The weight of summer bounty is beginning to fill CSA boxes. The first summer squash/zucchini, cucumbers, beets and apples were packed into boxes this week. The delightful aroma of fresh veggies wafts from the boxes as you open them. Mmmm.

In the Box: Garlic scapes (curly-Qs), spring onions, sage (full shares), green cabbage, beets, 1# Lodi heirloom apples, pint snow OR snap peas, summer squash (round, pictured) OR zucchini (full shares), Swiss chard (half shares), kale (full shares), kohlrabi trio, cucumber trio (half shares), radishes, basil (half shares).

CSA Week #4

Last Wednesday marked four weeks of delivery under the belt and we are just getting started! The bounty continues and grows!

CSA Newsletter Week #4 ~ News from the farm; featured veggie: peas; tips for cooking kohlrabi; recipes: sautéed radishes & sugar snap peas with dill, kohlrabi & cabbage salad with maple lemon dressing.


In the Box: Basil, Swiss chard (full shares), pint snow or snap peas, garlic scapes, radishes, green onions, All Hail! Strawberry-Rhubarb Jam (or apple butter), quart shell peas, summer crisp lettuce (half shares, kohlrabi.

Herb Boosters began this week, with parsley, rosemary and basil!

CSA Week #4

Week #4 brings a big shift into summer produce with the first summer squash, carrots, cucumbers and beans. Tastes of spring items remain with garlic scapes and peas. Take a gander at the photos to check out what's in the box and don't forget to read your CSA News, to get updates on the farm happenings, as well as recipes and storage tips!

In the Box: Garlic scapes, pint snap peas, white/green cucumbers, bunch of green onions, small bunch carrots, broccoli (full shares only), quart of Dragon's Tongue heirloom wax beans, quart of Mammoth Melting snow peas, 1.5 lbs Mountain Rose new potatoes, summer squash (pictured) or zucchini (half shares only), bunch of baby beets, papalo (herb) and one head of cabbage (not pictured). Herb Boosters members also received their first delivery (of six): dill, sage, parsley and thyme.

It has been a beautiful week full of sunshine, which welcomes the official arrival of fall and Week #15 boxes.

CSA Week #5

Lots of summer goodies in this week's box! Celery, cabbage, carrots, beans and cucumbers made their seasonal debut.

In the box: carrots, broccoli, 'Satina' new potatoes, heirloom lettuce mix, 'Detroit Dark Red' beets with greens, heirloom mix Swiss chard, 'Early Jersey Wakefield' cabbage, celery bunch, 1 pint 'Mammoth Melting' snow peas, bunch oregano, cucumber, 3/4 lb 'Dragon's Tongue' wax beans and garlic scapes.

CSA Week #4

Week 4 deliveries went out this week with the first potatoes of the year! We are seeing (and tasting) a shift to summer produce, but the lettuce is holding on under our shade tunnel for a short bit yet!


CSA Box Week #4 • July 7, 2014
In the box: new potatoes (Satina), Winter Density romaine lettuce (Monday only), Pirat butterhead lettuce, Black Eyed Susans (from our native prairie), 1 quart Green Arrow shell peas, 1 quart Mammoth Melting snow peas , 1 cup heirloom dry bean mix, sprig of rosemary, red and yellow spring onion bunch, Dinosaur (pictured) or Red Russian kale and garlic scapes.


All packed up and ready to go!


This week the members receiving Herb Boosters (Wed. only this week) enjoyed: sage, peppermint, basil and tarragon.

CSA Week #3


Golden and Fordhook Giant chard bunches.
The first Swiss chard harvest of the season brought some beautiful color to the boxes.

CSa Box Week #3 • June 30th & July 2, 2014
In the boxes this week: basil, spring red onions, spring shallots, 1 quart snow peas, 1 pint snap peas, Red Russian or Dinosaur kale, garlic scapes, Swiss chard bunch, sprigs of dill and mixed heirloom radishes.

CSA Week #1

It was so fun to get set up to start CSA again! It feels soooo good to have started the delivery season. I just love going out and meeting our members at pick up and on delivery. It was a mucky harvest in the field, but at least the rain held off until I was packing the Jeep for delivery.

2014 CSA Box Week 1 • June 16, 2014
What's in the box? Red romaine and green romaine lettuce, rhubarb, bunching onions, spinach, rhuberry jam, red Russian kale, strawberries, chives, 1/2 lb heirloom corn meal, produce storage guide and Alternative Roots Farm seasonality chart. Herb Booster members also received their first week of booster delivery; the Herb Booster quartet this week included lemon thyme, sage, peppermint and oregano, as well as a handy dandy Herb Guide.

Week 1 will continue with deliveries on Wednesday!
